The practice

We'll consistently practice the same general movements and with the same principles in mind each day. The directions and points of focus may change depending on the needs of that particular class, but it's a practice that's meant to be continually revisited.

Practices will be between 60-90 minutes, following a structure of going from more movement to less movement.

We start by lightly stretching our joints and jostling our bones, which is also a good time for us to express any stirring questions or thoughts about the practice that have been on our minds.

We'll then move into two sets of four qigong movements. Building a familiarity and relationship with the movements over time is crucial. However, It's my hope that it's more so the way of practicing or the context of the tradition that's imparted each time, rather than just physical instructions. As we practice consistently and earnestly, we come to notice the different ways in which we interact with the movements and with our attention during practice.

In our last section of practice, we try to let go of physical considerations, and turn our attention inward. Our movements may get slower and smaller, and the importance of our physical mechanics lessens. These are attentional exercises first and foremost, rather than physical exercises.

I’ll anchor all of the practices that I share in what I’ve learned from trusted teachers and friends. I’ll also share my personal observations and lessons derived from my relationship to these practices, and encourage others to share as well. An attitude of openness toward others' practices will serve us all well.

We’re all peer practitioners! Our sessions will be structured, but shared in the style a peer led training session, rather than a teacher instructing a class. There is a ton to explore and to be learned collectively.

We’ll be practicing on the lawn between the skate park and volleyball courts
